As the weather starts to change and holidays approach, we feel the pull of our heartstrings towards all things cozy and comfy. Styling at home with decor can be subtle and natural, or packed with seasonally themed elements. It doesn't have to "say" Fall to BE Fall! If you'd like to try giving your home a natural look for Fall and Winter, here are some tips for decorating with textures, colors and contrast.

When we think of Fall and the coming months, we think of time with family, cooler temperatures, and harvested crops and produce. Why is that? Well, naturally the season provides this by giving the last of its fruits and preparing to store away for the Winter. This can help us mirror our own subtle transition into Fall and Winter decorating.

If you are on the hunt in your own home, in a store, or even online, here are some things to keep an eye out for.

Chunky textures. Think of the sweaters you wear during this time: cable knits, cashmere, vintage chenille or wool. Finding pillows, throws and even rugs with these textures bring in the cozy elements.

Warm (and some cool) colors. Rust, dusty rose, and rich blues are so popular in design this year! Using dark earthy tones brings life to a space. Traditional orange and mustards are great, but don't be afraid to try dark rich blues, pretty mauves, hunter greens and pops of browns and rust. This works in artwork too. The dramatic contrast of light and dark together mimics the contrast in nature. Style cred for this great palette goes to: https://colorpalettes.net/color-palette-4108/

Foraged and gathered items are naturally an Autumn vibe! Try greenery like eucalyptus, box woods, cedars, evergreens, and harvests of pumpkins, pears, apples, pine cones, wheat, hops and flowers.

Layers! Stack away! Put harvest items in rough and rustic bowls or pottery. Books stacked together with mixed elements of wood, metals and greenery make it interesting. Throw in some vintage bottles and rust for a mixture of textures.

Most importantly, find your own style. Think about this time of year and how it impacts your memories! Whether you’re buying new pillows in the store, shopping from your own decorations at home, or displaying layers of family photos and your own dried harvests, make your décor fit what’s most important. You.
